On the summit of Mt. Aspiring

Hey there, I can't even describe what the last three days were like as me and three others climbed Mt. Aspiring. The Southern Alps on the west coast of New Zealand are the most rugged mountains I have ever seen and Mt. Aspiring is one of the most alluring peaks I have ever seen. These pictures won't even do our trip justice, but they will give you a better idea of what it was like. More later on Mt. Aspiring...

Alan,

Matthew sent me the link to your blog and told me to check it out. It is pretty amazing becuase I have a good friend (80 Taylor grad)who is planning a climb for cancer survivors up Mt. Aspiring. He has had 2 pretty serious bouts himself and he organized a similar trip up Denali a few years ago. Here is his website: aspiring2007.org
Anyway--you would love this guy. I sent him the link and he loved your blog. Speaking of that I loved the quote from Endurance. If you want another great book on that topic check out Tom Crean--he was with both Scott and Shackelton and was pretty instrumental in the trips--kind of a salt of the earth hero--different than he is portrayed in Endurance. Anyway, great to see whats happening with you. Take care and come visit TU sometime.

Tim Herrmann
